1. 4S1P: 4 battery cells
2. 4S2P: 8 battery cells
3. 4S3P: 12 battery cells
4. 4S4P: 16 battery cells

Common types of lithium-ion batteries based on their chemical composition include lithium cobalt oxide (LCO), lithium manganese oxide (LMO), lithium iron phosphate (LFP), and lithium nickel cobalt aluminum oxide (NCA). Here it is important to highlight the LFP battery, which has become a superstar in the battery industry because of its more environmentally friendly nature and superb cycle life.
Can I replace a 12V lead acid battery with lithium-ion?
The answer is yes. It is OK to replace a 12V lead acid battery with a 12V lithium ion battery. However, it is important to ensure that the batteries are compatible in terms of voltage and capacity. And use a charger that is compatible with 12V lithium-ion batteries for charging.
Can I use a normal 12v charger on lithium battery?
The answer is no. You cannot just charge a lithium ion battery with a normal charger, it is very dangerous. Make sure it is compatible before charging a 12V lithium-ion battery.

The charging rate of a 12V lithium-ion battery is typically expressed in terms of the current multiplier, or "C". C represents the multiple of the battery's rated capacity, which is typically measured in ampere-hours (Ah). For example, for a 12V 10Ah lithium-ion battery, a charge rate of 0.5C would mean charging it at a current of 5A, while a charge rate of 1C would mean discharging it at a current of 10A.

So what exactly is the charge rate of 12v?

What happens if you charge a lithium battery with too much voltage?
If you charge a lithium battery with too much voltage, it can result in overcharging, which can be dangerous and potentially damage the battery. Lithium-ion batteries have a maximum charging voltage limit, and exceeding this limit can cause several issues, such as: Overheating, Reduced battery life, Leakage, Risk of fire, etc.

It can be seen that the voltage of lithium-ion battery is relatively stable during most of the discharge time, while the voltage of lead-acid battery has been dropping significantly throughout the discharge process.

What is the 12v lithium ion battery cutoff voltage?
First of all, lithium-ion battery is a generic term. 12 V lithium-ion battery cut-off voltage depends on the specific chemistry and design of the battery. It can be roughly divided into two cases:

1. For ordinary lithium-ion batteries, the lithium cell is generally rated at 3.7V and the cut-off voltage is set at 2.75V. So the cut-off voltage of a 12V lithium-ion battery is 2.75V*4=11V

2. For LiFePO4 battery, single LiFePO4 battery cell is generally rated at 3.2V and the cutoff voltage is set at 2.5V. So the cutoff voltage of 12V Li-ion battery is 2.5V*4=10V
What is the minimum voltage for 12V lithium-ion battery?
Here we need to introduce the concept of cut-off voltage. KET's 12v li-ion battery packs are protected by BMS with a cut-off voltage. However, the cut-off voltage varies depending on the composition of the lithium battery or the customer's custom requirements.

The cut-off voltage of a 12V LFP battery pack is usually around 10V, which is the "minimum voltage" of the pack.
How to maintain the 12 volt lithium ion batteries?
If you intend to store the battery for a long period of time, it is recommended that it is charged to 50% before storage. Lithium batteries have a low self-discharge rate of around 3%. You need to avoid the battery capacity dropping below 20%, so it is usually necessary to re-charge the battery at intervals of 3-6 months. Li-ion batteries perform best at room temperature. Exposure to high temperatures will cause accelerated battery degradation. Keep the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use. Check the battery regularly for any signs of damage or swelling. If you notice any problems, stop using the battery immediately.
How to connect 4 12v li-ion batteries to make 24v?

It's time for a new "electric knowledge lesson". The first thing we need to know is that when connected in series, the voltages add up, while when connected in parallel, the voltages remain the same.

For example:
1. Two 12v batteries connected in series will have a voltage of 24v
2. Two 12v batteries connected in parallel will still have a voltage of 12v

How battery management system protects cells of the 12v lithium-ion battery pack?
The Battery Management System (BMS) is a "secret weapon" used by KET to protect the cells in 12v Li-ion battery packs. Here are the 4 main ways in which KET's BMS helps to protect the battery:

Overcharge protection: The BMS monitors the battery voltage and stops the charging process when the voltage reaches a certain level, thus preventing overcharging.

Over-discharge protection: Over-discharge of lithium-ion batteries can cause irreversible damage to the battery, the BMS prevents over-discharge by monitoring the battery voltage and shutting down the battery when the voltage falls below a certain level.

Short circuit protection: The BMS also protects the battery pack from short circuits, which can cause high currents to flow through the battery, potentially damaging it or causing a fire.

Overcurrent protection: Overcurrent protection detects if the current in the battery cell exceeds a safe range and stops the battery from being charged or discharged if necessary. This prevents the battery from overheating, damaging or causing a fire.

How can I calculate how long a 12v lithium ion battery will last?
To calculate how long a 12V lithium battery will last, you need to know the capacity of the battery and the amount of current that will be drawn from it. The capacity of a battery is measured in ampere-hours (Ah), which is the amount of current that can be drawn from the battery for one hour before it is fully discharged.

Let's assume you have a 12V lithium battery with a capacity of 100Ah, and you are drawing a constant current of 10A from the battery.

To calculate the estimated runtime of the battery, you can use the following formula:

Battery runtime = Battery capacity (Ah) / Current draw (A)

In our example, the runtime would be:

Battery runtime = 100Ah / 10A = 10 hours

However, it's important to consider the depth of discharge (DoD) when calculating battery runtime. DoD refers to the amount of the battery's capacity that is used before it is recharged. Lithium batteries have a recommended maximum DoD of 80%, which means you should not discharge the battery below 20% of its capacity.

Taking the maximum DoD into consideration, the runtime of the battery would be:

Battery runtime = (Battery capacity x DoD) / Current draw

Battery runtime = (100Ah x 0.8) / 10A = 8 hours

So, in this scenario, the 12V lithium battery with a capacity of 100Ah and a constant current draw of 10A will last for approximately 8 hours before it needs to be recharged, assuming a maximum depth of discharge of 80%.
What is the voltage of a 12V lithium-ion battery when full charge?
The voltage profile of lithium batteries varies from chemical composition to chemical composition. And even for lithium batteries of the same composition, the voltage can be affected by the operating temperature and other aspects. Taking a 12V LFP lithium-ion battery as an example here, a fully charged 12V lithium iron phosphate battery will typically have a voltage of around 14.2 to 14.6 volts.
Can you charge 12v lithium battery with 12v lead acid charger?

You can use a lead-acid charger under two conditions: you have a lead-acid charger that can be set to the maximum voltage and the charger is not in automatic equalisation mode (most chargers have turned this mode off).

This situation is generally safe to use this lead-acid charger. However, once the lithium-ion battery is fully charged, you must stop charging immediately to avoid damaging the battery.
Do 12v lithium ion batteries leak?
While lithium batteries are generally less prone to leakage compared to alkaline batteries, extreme conditions such as physical damage or improper charging can lead to rare instances of leakage or electrolyte exposure. However, the internal design of lithium batteries, including the use of solid or gel electrolytes and barriers to prevent leakage, helps maintain their safety.
